Last season’s Coventry City U18s have been nominated for Team of the Year at tonight’s Coventry and Warwickshire Sports Awards 2017.
The young Sky Blues sealed an impressive league title back in April, as they beat Barnsley 2-0 to be crowned winners of the Professional Development League South.
Young striker Jordan Ponticelli led the way with 27 goals for Jason Farndon’s side, and the 19-year-old is up for Young Sportsperson of the Year.
The ceremony is set to be held this evening at the Ricoh Arena, and Academy boss Rich Stevens will be in attendance to represent George Thomas, who has been nominated for Professional Sportsman of the Year, but is currently on international duty with Wales.
Meanest defence in England?
Coventry City are among three clubs who have claimed the most clean sheets in the entire Football League so far this season.
The Sky Blues have kept seven clean sheets in the first two months of the campaign and only conceded six goals in total.
Mark Robins’s men currently top the leaderboard, alongside League One clubs Scunthorpe United and Wigan Athletic, while Premier League giants Manchester United are among five clubs in second place.
Robins to ponder striking options
Mark Robins asked his Coventry City strikers to give him a selection problem ahead of this weekend’s trip to Barnet.
The Sky Blues travel to North London without leading scorer Duckens Nazon, who went off on international duty after hitting four in his last five games for the club and has five overall since joining on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Max Biamou has come to the fore in recent weeks, operating up front with Nazon when Marc McNulty and Stuart Beavon were injured, while Jordan Ponticelli pressed his claim for a place with his first senior goal at Walsall on Tuesday night.
YOUR chance to be the boss
The Sky Blues are currently enjoying a rich vein of form and go into the fixture against the Bees in fourth place after recording three wins on the bounce.
Striker Duckens Nazon will miss the trip to the capital because of international duty, but Marc McNulty and Stuart Beavon returned to action during the Sky Blues’ Checkatrade Trophy tie with Walsall in midweek.
