Lucy Williams x Missoma Roman Coins Collection: Exclusive Interview & Pictures
Tomorrow is a big day for super blogger Lucy Williams (aka Fashion Me Now) – her second collection for jewellery brand Missoma drops, and if it’s anywhere near as successful as the first one, it’s going to be a runaway success.
Let’s face it, who doesn’t own the fang/mini horn necklace (pictured above)? Well, out with the old and in with the new! Lucy’s new collection is inspired by Roman coins, and you’re going to be obsessed. We spoke to Lucy all about the inspiration behind the new collection, her favourite designers and her top tips for being Insta famous.
Q. Hi Lucy, what’s the idea behind your new Missoma collection?
I went to Rome for my 30th earlier this year and fell in love with architecture, the marble and of course, the food. After walking around the Roman busts and statues in Villa Borghese and Palazzo Altemps, visiting the forum and the Vatican with all the amazing circular and rope patterns in the tiles and ceilings, I came home feeling inspired to create medallions, pendants and more based around original Roman coins.
Q. How did the collaboration all come about?
We’ve been working together since 2015 after meeting for coffee and chatting about designing something together. That turned into an entire collection revolving around the much-loved horn and fang necklaces. Two collections later, we wanted to create something new together and we were ready for an entirely new collection from a new point of inspiration. Enter, The Roman Collection…
Q. How do you feel when you see girls in a Missoma piece from your range?
Ridiculously happy. Seeing people wearing something we’ve worked so hard on feels amazing.
Q. Ok, fess up. How big is your wardrobe?
Haha. Sadly the size of my flat doesn’t allow it to overflow quite as much as I’d like but it has definitely overtaken half the spare room! I try and keep it edited and give lots to charity shops and sales in order to stop the dreaded ’floordrobe’ from appearing…
Q. What’s your favourite brand of the moment that we might not have heard of?
I love what my friends at Asceno create; amazing silk and linen pieces to lounge, sleep and holiday in. I’m also really into Khaite, Nili Lotan and Magda Butrym right now… I’m never very good at mentioning just one; there’s always loads!
Q. Do you hold on to old clothes or constantly refresh?
There are some things I would never get rid of like my black leather biker jacket, vintage embroidered silk jackets I found in L.A and my collection of denim. I can be pretty sentimental about clothes so find it hard to be ruthless at culling stuff. But pieces that are more of the moment, be it high street or designer, I will re-sell or give away to allow room for new pieces.
Q. Who do you look to for advice when it comes to blogging?
I often just turn to my mum or my boyfriend when I really need advice or support with something, but a lot of the time it’s just learning to listen to your gut and finding help with the stuff you’re not good at, in my case accounting and coding.
Q. How do you decide on what to pack for your wanderluster life?
I normally end up packing more accessories than I normally would, in order to make basics work harder. Things like Re/done jeans, white t-shirts and silk slip dresses, can be transformed with different shoes, jewellery and bags so I always take a ridiculous amount of shoes and bags compared to clothes. On holiday, things like plain linen shirts and button-down dresses in neutral colours, the sort of things that work in lots of different ways are my go-to for mindless packing. Also if in doubt, I follow the rule of three; three of everything in a colour palette that all work together.
Q. Lots of girls probably want your life – what’s the advice you’d give them?
Work hard, learn to say no (in a good way) and be nice to people. It’s simple but effective. And know that a lot of the time, what you see on social media is just the highlights reel. Perfect doesn’t exist and if it did, it would be kind of boring.
Q. What does the future hold for Lucy Williams?
Right now, I’m about to head to the U.S for a road trip and have some exciting projects in the pipe line I’m working on for next year. Past that, who knows. As long as I get to keep creating, travelling and spending time with my family and friends I’m happy!
The Lucy Williams x Missoma collection drops on 4 October.
